so halloween is a thing.

and i did a costume. 

here is how.

my hair is washing off now and i wanted to incorporate that in my costume. unfortunately, that narrows down my choices a lot. the only blue-haired girls i know also have short hair. for a while i was considering being ramona flowers from scott pilgrim vs the world, but her hair is short too plus i'm not as badass as she is. so i decided to go for somebody a lot less realistic, corpse bride.

emily is the corpse bride from tim burton's film by the same title. it's a stop-motion animation but with little dolls. after reading that, it sound like a cute thing but it's about a dead-un-dead bride so it can't be that cute.

anyway, i love the style. inspirations:

as i am a makeup student after all, i started by experimenting with my face. that sounds wrong... this is a bit over the top but before i started with the outfit i was thinking of actually cosplaying.

 i wasn't feeling it so i decided to just be inspired by her. it turned out to be a good idea cause it is apparently very difficult to find a cheap wedding gown, who would have thought? it's actually hard to find a wedding gown, not even cheap.

early makeup trials:

as to the costume itself, i just went for something wedding like. i didn't have and couldn't find any long white dresses. i went through some white lacy night gowns but none really felt right. i found a very old skirt i used to wear all the time. it was perfect, white with different fabrics. i used a lot of old curtains, some white tights and long gloves. i dyed them with some purple and blue fabric dye i had from the galaxy projects we did a while back. i noticed she also has a flower crown so i made one myself. would you like to see a tutorial? i love making them, wish i had more time for them. so many possibilities.

 i am so happy with how it turned out! of course it's not as cool as some real cosplays of her but i did my best. the only downside was the fact i was so hot on my hands because of the gloves. the cool thing is that even when i didn't have the whole vail i looked scary and the kids around town had priceless faces.

 how is the raven like a writing desk?

so halloween happened. this year i actually prepared, and since i go to an art school now i decided to dress up! characterisation and style course requires commitment. 

alice in wonderland is one of my favourite books. i absolutely love the old story but tim burton's remake was really cool as well. i love all the cgi work in it, and johnny depp did a great job with his mad hatter.

my take on this classy and crazy english gentleman obsessed with tea was focused on taking both characters and blending them into a colourful mix. that sounds a bit morbid but i think it turned out pretty good.

i'm no longer ginger so it kinda doesn't look as crazy as it could've but i still love it. btw, do you like my  new hair colour? it's gonna go bit colder toned in a bit.

it suits my beauty type, but on this some other day.

i'm so excited to dress up, even if halloween is not as widely celebrated here. plus the mad hatter is a bit more original than a zombie or mickey mouse, i think.

c'est fini

i recently realised that i haven't post a ootd in like, ages. so here is a new years eve one. as i promised. haha, good start of the year, first promise kept! 

and btw, spoiler alert, no, i didn't go anywhere. 

and yes, this means i dressed up for scrolling down tumblr till midnight. feel free to judge me.

maybe just a bit. 

firstly, let's go through the ones from last year:

-draw everyday - well, i kinda did it. i'm better but i could use some practise.

-read more - this year i've read a least 42 books. i wanted to go to the usual 50, but i just didn't manage. 2013 and 50 books, challenge accepted.

-post regularly - well, you can tell how it went. i needed 3 months to complete something i was supposed to do in one month. but i posted quite frequently, i guess. you can judge that for yourself.

and btw, even though the calendar thing didn't work out as good as i planned, i still got the 2013 one. 

this year:

-i need to work more, like work on my portfolio and stuff like that. dream is to get a scholarship in london so i need to get myself together.

-this is sort of connected to the first one. i'll blog more, because it's fun, because i like it and because i can share doing something i love.

-i should be nicer to people. probably.

yeah, this is achievable. i hope at least.

hedgehogs and seals

first of all. that's why you're here, isn't it?

sorry, i should have posted this yesterday but we had major problems with the camera. the filter broke and we had to get it fixed. i was terrified that the lens was broken but i turns out it's alright. thank god, if we were left without the camera i would be very upset, lightly speaking.
anyway. here are the pictures.

as for the news, lots of things happened. this saturday we visited bath, one of my favourite destinations. we've seen the new exhibition in the fashion museum there, and it was absolutely great. if you're around, you really should see it.
it's for the olympics, and it was sportswear and things inspired by it. i found out so many interesting things through the audio guide, i had no clue about them. there was even the 'sleeping-bag' coat from stella mccartney. i really like it.

later, when i come back, i'll try posting some photos.

on sunday we went to the spitalfields market. one of the most wonderful places! go there! so many handcrafted things and so many nice people. i got some photos for my personal project inspirations, it will be great. later i'll show you in an ootd the things i bought there.

speaking of ootd, today i was so proud of my look (even the lady in the shop said that i looked very nice, and she liked the colours) that i decided to make this:
