dressed in a dream

as always summer brings us to those fabulous sales in all those shops we won't even go near in the season cause the prices are just so big. i'm going to write about zara. well, it's not one of those hyper-expencive shops but still, i usually go to h&m (btw my mum was doing a big clean-up of all her clothes and she realised that about 3/4 of our clothes are from there, crazy). i go there cause i'm from the kind of girls that is not sky-high and paper thin. i wish i was because some of the styles there are really nice, i especially love the patterns they come up with each year. but, since the smaller sizes don't fit me and there are a lot less clothes in bigger ones, i usually don't bother during the season cause they disappear from the shelves instantly.
however sales are much different. i noticed that zara does this thing that in the summer the bust out some hidden bigger sizes of autumn/winter collections and just hang them on the sales rack.
then, excuse my language, i'm all up in this shit.

this year i found some really nice things actually. i loved the faux leather and black and burgundy trends this winter and zara had a really nice selection.

let's begin with this piece.
it is a sort of a very thin grey sweater, you can see a lot through that. i would never even look at it since i'm not a big fan of see-through but it has these really cool black faux leather shoulder panels. love those.
and i already have an idea for an outfit of the day with that, but it's so hot here (32 degrees celsius) that i can't even think about wearing something with a long sleeve, even for a photo.

the next piece is actually the very first one that caught my eye. as you know i freaking love foxes and colours, so i was sold on that top.
it's pure linen which means that it's perfect for the heat wave. you literally feel like you have a self-fanning material on. it's mostly white with this very colourful dart pattern.
yes, i do realise that these are not foxes, but from a distance they sort of look like ones plus i love them anyway.

the last piece i picked up in the sales was this jumper (yes, jumper obsession continues, even in the heat of summer).
it's a very thick, oversized black cotton jumper, has a really good weight to it. it comes to just my hips so i'll probably wear it with some high-waisted skinny jeans.
it also has these white panels on the sleeves. looks like this when it's on.
i know, it doesn't look like much, but it was the back that got me hooked.

look it has buttons all the way down!
ok ok... i'm the only one who likes random buttons? really?

never mind, i saved the best for last.
i finally got the zara city bag! the bag that like every blogger has!
it wasn't in the sale... so much money on a bag, it's not even leather.

but i feel like it was worth it.
i feel like i said enough for this post. but then again i want to say more about the bag, to do it justice i'll have to write a little more about it. expect a post, soonish (i want to finish the great gatsby first)

what did you buy on the summer sale? anything super cool?

let me know!

love,

ps. i'm listening to a lot of muse, hence the title. have a nice day ;]

oh daisy

so in the mood of films and costumes let's go back to my beloved 'great gatsby'. since writing about it last time i saw it once more, this time in 2d. well... it doesn't feel as spectacular as in 3d (you know it was filmed to be in 3d so that's understandable).
oh and there are some elements that are just too much, all that 'green screen' stuff and dreams literally appearing in the clouds was an absurd. in 2d that's much more visible.

but going away from the general idea, let's discuss daisy buchanan, portrayed by carey mulligan.

as you can see perfectly well even from the posters she's the 'it' girl in this film. i mean, it's pretty obvious, especially if you know the story. and all this 'itness' is shown in her costumes. she's in general a brilliant example of how diverse the 20's really were. hearing 'the roaring twentees' always reminded me of low waist and brilliant head pieces. but when i looked into it more while reading the book and as a preparation for my english classes, i discovered how much more there was to the fashion of that time.

it turns out that people were so amazed by the golden years and the boom, american dream was coming alive, that clothing exploded with many new styles. the dropped waist was definitely a trend but the a shaped dresses were also very big. the evening clothing became very luxurious, with fur and crystals in details. i think that as women in general became more significant in the life of a society, they sort of became more like men (you can see that very clearly from the career of a short haircut at that time), but the again i think that they didn't want to lose themselves in all that 'freedom'.

let's go back to daisy. oh sweet sweet daisy.

i think that a lot of people will disagree with me but my favourite dress of hers wasn't actually the party dress, filled with crystals, but the lavender day-time dress she wore when she was reunited with gatsby.

the lace shows just as much as it should and the frilly arm pieces are very fashionable for that time, you know the whole extenuating your arms thing. her hair is also very nice in that scene, let me just throw that out there. also the significance of the muted violet is very big, she sort of goes through a drastic change right there and then.

and now the star of her wear, the party dress. this is actually an old prada design, the 'chandelier dress' from the spring/summer 2010 collection. it looks really cool in the party sequence, the light bounces of the crystals in a very pretty sort of rainbowy way but not really. i mean, just pay attention to it.

the last thing i need to talk about are the headpieces. as you probably know, hair accessories were very in back then and it definitely shows in the costumes. in almost every scene women have something on their head, either a hat, a little pin or a scarf like daisy is rocking below.

i don't really have a lot to say about these. as a person in love with her bowler hats and any other headpieces, i just think that this style can compliment a lot of faces and looks. just try a hat for a change, i feel like not enough girls (or even guys for that matter) pay attention to headdress and many possibilities a hat gives.

hope you enjoyed that,
let me know what you think about daisy's wardrobe.

next up:
i went on sales

movie night (month?)

i've been watching a lot of films lately. i mean loads.
it started with an obsession over jesse eisenberg. i know. not your usual hottie but i find myself attracted to these kinds of guys. like he's just nice and seems like a shy but passionate fast talker (i guess my 'type'). so i watched 'now you see me' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1670345/) like 5 times in 2 weeks (i know i'm crazy, but i also have a nice and cheap cinema near me and know my discounts). it's not great, i mean it's an action thriller about criminal magicians, pretty interesting concept. i found that it took my mind off a lot of things and jesse is amazingly hot with a stubble and a deck of cards.

sidenote: for some reason i kinda feel dirty posting this. i'm so twisted.
it's like confessions or something.
i hope he never finds this...
sorry, i'm just weird.
carry on.

then my next encounter with his acting was in re-watching 'the social network' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1285016/) for this first scene in the pub. wonderful, everybody should watch that. it has a really interesting way of showing the story of friendship and creating the biggest social network in the background. oh yeah, facebook.

to my surprise i got so obsessed with jesse that i watched my first zombie movie just to see him and woody harrelson in their first piece together (they are both in 'now you see me'). and it was a good choice. and to throw my 'fashion' opinion, the makeup was brilliant, a little over the top but very appropriate for the atmosphere of the film. i forgot to mention it's 'zombieland' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1156398/), i also stars emma stone!

then came 30 minutes or less (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1622547/), adventureland (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1091722/) (kristen stewart isn't actually that bad here, don't throw things at me! just watch it!) and some other ones.

then i discovered 'the living wake' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0489212/), a wonderful story.

and the best costumes ever. i might do a review of this and the costume part in a separate post. btw would you like to hear my thoughts on films in general or just the costumes? i mean like an additional corner for movie geeks that like the sort of suff i watch (and believe me, i watch some weird pieces sometimes).

ok. i just added photos and i guess it turned out to be a 'jesse eisenberg appreciation post'. meh, i'm fine with that.

i provided the imdb pages to all those films, in case you'd like to read more. they're not just some random pages ;]

so let me know what you think about 'the film corner with a crazy person that just enjoys going to the cinema' (that's just a draft title, don't worry, the real one is going to be much more ridiculous) and go watch all or at least a few of those pieces.

we good?
good.

love you all and see you soon,

qofr

p.s. not my images, obvs.

the postman

ok. i'm sorry. but now i'm on holiday so it's all good. and i hope i won't procrastinate on this. cause i'm a shitty bloger. are we done here? good.

hi. again. hi.

so... as a starter let me just throw words at you. you ok with that? might be painful, you know, all those comas stuck in your skin, sharp ends of w's and t's. only o's are nice, bouncy little o's.

i'm feeling much better, for all of those of you who care.

i missed my anniversary. again, just like last year. don't worry, the new layout will be done till the end of july, it's the best one yet.

plus things.

i'm going to an arts school in september. today was a shopping day. i went with my sister and it was... scary. i mean... i don't know all the terms, i have no idea how much of what i need to get or how to ask for that. that's where my anxiety kicks in and i'm just paralised. so i just got the basics. i'll probably have to go back there. on my own... oh my god...

this makes me nervous about next year. and i don't know how to paint or draw, when you think about it. i mean... drawing is my thing, but it's not very good and i'm hopeless with any other paints than watercolours. disaster is in the making. me in an arts school doing characterisation and styling. wonderful. i shall document me falling into a pit off eternal despair by the end of the summer, expect some intense footage.

other stuff.

i've been obsessed with mail lately. i mean the real snail-mail thing. if you follow me on instagram or twitter you probably know that but now i'm telling you for sure. actually, through instagram i discovered a wonderful mail-art artist. she's russian, and unfortunately i can't read cyrylic but her art is amazing.
her blog:
http://www.fishmailart.com/
and her instagram:
http://instagram.com/nasyakopteva

so for now your task is to get mailing. i can even offer you a deal that if you email me (or like send any other way) your address i'll make something fun for you and we can become pen-palls, isn't that cool? no, only me?

if you are interested, here is a cool site:
